M.A.S Incontro

Welcome to the official M.A.S. Incontro website

The Essentials

What is fencing?

Fencing is a sport that combines the need for quick reactions, concentration, tactics and condition!

What weapons does MAS Incontro use?

At MAS Incontro we train all three weapons - foil, epée and sabre. They all have different characteristics, such as fighting style or target areas. In the beginners course you will start to train foil in order to learn the basics, but afterwards you are free to try all weapons to find the one that suits you best!

How to become a member?

As a new fencer you can join our beginner’s course to learn the basics of fencing and afterwards join the advanced course. If you are an experienced fencer, you can join our advanced course. Information about which UM Sport and MASIncontro Club memberships you need for each course is provided below.

What is the training schedule?

Training is once a week on Thursday evening, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm for both the Advanced and Beginner Courses. There is an additional hour of free sparring afterwards from 9:00 pm to 10:00pm. We offer a free training on Monday evenings from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm to all MASIncontro Club Members. This is done in cooperation with the civilian La Rapière Fencing Club.

Where is the training?

Monday Training: Sporthall de Heeg, Roserije 500, 6228 DN, Maastricht” Thursday Training: UM Sports main downstairs hall - the entry is between the squash courts. The address to UMSports is: P. Debyeplein 15, 6229 HA, Maastricht.

Are we all experts?

No way! We have both brand new fencers, and fencers who’ve been practicing from anywhere between 1 year to 10 years (sometimes more!).

What else does the club do?

Those who want can join us for a round of beer after trainings. There is also the Christmas Dinner, and the Summer BBQ we invite you to.
There are also competitions year round we can go to. These are usually in the Netherlands but there is the possibility to go abroad. This is the best way to gain experience and learn so both beginner and advanced fencers are encouraged to attend. For more information please contact us and check out the Tournament Calendar on our Facebook page.

Do I have to speak Dutch?

No! All our trainers are excellent speakers of English. But of course you can speak Dutch with everybody who understands it.

There are several beginner’s courses throughout the year. These teach the basics of fencing using the foil weapon (one of the three weapons) after which you can join the advanced course and choose your weapon. They each last 14 weeks and cost 12,50 euro.
